    > wuuko: in matrix every server participating in a groupchat gets a copy of entire chat history including joins, parts, nick changes s/groupchat/room/ there's no semantical difference between a chat and a groupchat

Does anyone recall when XEP-0163 Version 1.2 went trough council (as I assume it would have) and why it changed a MUST in the feature discovery procedure.

Does anyone recall when XEP-0163 Version 1.2 went trough council (as I assume it would have) and why it changed a MUST in the feature discovery procedure?

  4. Zash

I found some mention of it and pubsub in 2010 council logs, but haven't found a vote or reasoning yet.

https://xmpp.org/extensions/attic/xep-0163-1.1.html#disco says "MUST ... request to the server" https://xmpp.org/extensions/attic/xep-0163-1.2.1.html#support says "MUST ... to its own bare JID"

I've just been informed *again* by a senior networking guy that long-lived TCP connections cannot be expected to work across the internet, thought everyone here should know... -.-

  7. MattJ

Ok, thanks. Maybe we should inform the IETF too.

  8. moparisthebest

my wild guess is this comes from thinking HTTP is the only protocol that exists? but even then, websockets, polling, large downloads etc ? makes no sense to me

  9. qy

moparisthebest: Probably from addresses changing and invalidating routes

  10. qy

Need a roaming protocol over that

  11. moparisthebest

this is actually because they have smart networking appliance firewall things that detect and kill long-running TCP connections for... who knows what reasons ?

  12. qy

    Ah

  13. qy

    Beautiful

  14. qy
