  5. emus

Thanks for the good talk today Sam. Are you going to upload? Or at least have it accessible via the platform you run there?

  6. emus

We also found one or the other topic we need to discuss and clarify

  7. Sam

I'm looking into the "can you also accept donations through the XSF and a different way right now". I think the answer is "legally, 'yes', but the XSF should probably restrict it in our terms"

  8. Sam

(since it's hard for us to make sure you're not laundering money or something if we don't have control over your entire budget)

  9. Sam

I'll read through the Open Collective Foundation fiscal host rules and see what they do

  10. emus

Yes, but what I mean is: Projct ABC has also donations through Github Sponsors or LiberaPay for example (or direct money transfer) So they would need to close these accounts?

  11. emus

I dont want these to be managed by the XSF, just asking if they can still have other ways to receive donations.

  12. Sam

My guess is that we should have something in our rules saying that you'd need to close those accounts, but I'm not sure yet.

  13. emus

    ok

  14. Sam

Oh, the OCF (another fiscal host that's very well established) says it's fine to fundraise on the internet, but if you do it in real life you have to let them know so that they can make sure legal regulations are being followed

  15. Sam

Oh, nevermind, they do allow you to raise funds outside of the Open Collective, but you have to transfer them to the open collective budget afterwards

  16. Sam

Which seems fine. Who wants their budget spread over multiple places anyways?

  17. Sam

That seems like a reasonable thing to add to our terms of service too

  18. emus

    ๐Ÿ‘๏ธ

  19. emus

Sam, maybe we should have a bit of FAQ in the fiscal host page

  20. emus

    or open collective

  21. Sam

I'm drafting some new language and will submit it to the board; really we should have a lawyer go over all of this or copy an existing agreement, but it's probably "good enough" and can be improved and modified if any problems arise or if the host starts growing to large sums of money where it would be much more important to dot all our i's and cross the t's

  22. emus

Memorandum of understanding could also be of help to prevent issues
