XSF Discussion - 2022-04-01

  1. mjk

Does anyone care to fix one client's DOAP url? It points to a text/html document: https://github.com/xsf/xmpp.org/blob/master/data/clients.json#L443 Sould be https://codeberg.org/Arne/monocles_chat/raw/branch/master/monocles_chat.doap Scanned with: `curl -sSL https://github.com/xsf/xmpp.org/raw/master/data/clients.json | egrep -o '[^"]+\.doap' | xargs curl -IL | grep -i content-type:`

  2. Guus

    done, tx

  3. mjk

    πŸ‘πŸ‘

  4. moparisthebest

So is everyone going to implement this right away? https://mail.jabber.org/pipermail/standards/2022-April/038795.html / https://xmpp.org/extensions/xep-0464.html

  5. mjk

cookies? in my xmpp??? > 2022-03-31 so close :))

  6. moparisthebest

That's fine since it's a normal standards track XEP and definitely not an April fool's joke

  7. mjk

yep. Probably would be of most benefit to browser clients (browsers having the biggest cross-site section area)

  8. Guus

isn't that a Keepass database, or am I decoding it wrong?

  9. moparisthebest

Guus: hehe possibly, or just look at it with less or something

  10. Guus

Ah, I missed that tar cz

  11. Guus

    also

  12. Guus shakes angry fist

  13. moparisthebest

    you're welcome

  14. mjk

so, this seems to implement WebRCE as a bonus, nice!

  15. moparisthebest

mjk, also browser clients will have a harder time implementing this as they normally can't run javascript as root

  16. Guus

I fault council for not flagging this when promoting the XEP. ohwait...

  17. moparisthebest

    Guus, it's not a bug it's a feature!

  18. mjk

    > browser clients will have a harder time implementing this Right. But at least cross-site tracking is most potent there

  19. moparisthebest

yea this brings that important feature to XMPP

  20. moparisthebest

I've posted it on HN for you HN lurkers (this is only my second HN post)

  21. mjk

emus: any chance to twit the new xep?

  22. emus

mjk: can you prepare as I did the last one?

  23. mjk

    emus: uh, I'll try

  24. mjk

A new #XEP has been published recently: XEP-0464: Cookies This is the first specification published as part of the effort to get #XMPP up to speed with modern tech and make it Web-friendly. Author: Travis Burtrum https://xmpp.org/extensions/xep-0464.html Info: https://xmpp.org/extensions/ #web #specifications

  25. mjk

Mostly a copy-paste of the previous one, feel free to amend :) Cc emus, moparisthebest

  26. moparisthebest

    looks good to me

  27. mjk

    Thx

  28. emus

mjk: thats perfectly done and as expected

  29. emus

But general question: Shall we advertise this way? (last time people were making fun we standardise this message reply) are there other recent new xeps?

  30. Zash

Hmm, XEP Highlight of the Week?

  31. Zash

emus, all talk about XMPP is good talk!

  32. mjk

    Heheh, this ↑

  33. mjk

But yeah, there were two other xeps published since the last tweet, so maybe turn this into some sort of highlight of the <period/>

  34. mjk

    Orrr highlight them later

  35. mjk

This one is urgent, after all

  36. moparisthebest

emus, yea this one needs published today

  37. moparisthebest

    preferably alone :P

  38. mjk

It's already April 2nd in some partsof the world...

  39. emus

    > Zash escribiΓ³: > Hmm, XEP Highlight of the Week? > emus, all talk about XMPP is good talk! πŸ˜‚ Okay, but you guys catch the people in the comment line politely, alright?

  40. emus

  41. emus

We have really time to put resources in this :D

  42. emus

    Is it?

  43. mjk

  44. emus

mjk, moparisthebest: I will post it. such suggestion on interesting developments are really appreciated in the future. I sometimes dont know what good to tweet about (or not)

  45. mjk

  69. emus

  70. emus

    people are sick from twitter

  71. emus

Dear Board, due to lag of time and in agreement with Ge0rG I would take over the role as the German contact for the goverment evaluation (BKA). Would that be okay for you? Of course, I would keep him in the loop. Other volunteers especially for technical details are invited if they did not yet have another role in that regard. I would especially look for expertise on the MLS encryption topic. No matter if you speak German (but English ☺). It would be necessary to at least provide info on status, advantages and general information what it is. No technical details I think. Good night MattJ ralphm jcbrand arc

  72. Ge0rG

    *lack

  73. ralphm

I think that's fine. Suggesting you check with dwd for MLS.

  74. emus

    > Ge0rG escribiΓ³: > *lack I knew it πŸ™ˆ

  75. emus

dwd, let me know if you are interested

  76. Ge0rG

emus: whoops, I totally didn't realize that this was the public post and not the private draft πŸ˜’

  77. emus

    all good, legitamite
