Good read, at least we don't have this problem: > In practice, I think it's often worse than it sounds, because board members aren't even chosen carefully - a lot of the time, a nonprofit just goes with an assortment of random famous people, big donors, etc. Like our board members are at least passionate about the mission and want to do it at minimum

The random famous people thing is a big problem on other boards. I think because many non-profits see the board as a box to tick and the staff actually do everything. But if you have no staff your board is usually more sensibly chosen

Fwiw I'm not sure board members are sensibly chosen here either. It's mostly whoever applies combined with familiarity with the person if there's more than 5

And yeah there's no staff, no CEO. Low engagement for many, unclear responsibilities and indeed zero accountability.. And the mission statement could be clarified :)

  5. Zash

Yeah, where's the step where we grant the board "ansvarsfrihet" ? And the "verksamhetsberättelse" ??

  6. pep.

(no paid* staff, which means clearer responsabilities than board but no accountability really either)

  7. Zash

Tons of formalia that's standard at random swedish associations that feels missing.

  8. Zash

Maybe just covered differently in the bylaws.

  10. pep.

Kinda, but also because it's not clear what kind of people is needed

Thats the other side of the medal of course
