lovetox
message retraction is complicated
-
lovetox
if it only were client to client, it would be more of a user choice
-
Link Mauve
It is client to client though.
-
lovetox
nope not if the server supports it
-
lovetox
then suddenly its not the clients choice anymore, rather the server decides which messages it deletes from MAM and in what timeframe
-
Zash
server support is optional tho?
-
lovetox
and it gets more complicated, if client and servers have different timeframes etc
-
lovetox
actually my first idea is to remove server support for that
-
lovetox
like i dont see why we would need that
-
lovetox
its also weird to let a remote instance controle messages in your server archive
-
Link Mauve
lovetox, the reason for server to be optionally involved, is if it wants to actually remove the messages from the archive, instead of keeping them forever alongside the retraction.
-
lovetox
but you cant choose Link Mauve ...
-
lovetox
if the server supports it, i send you 50 retractions, the server will not ask you if you want them gone from the archive
-
lovetox
they are just gone
-
Guus
Did the jabber.org cert expire?
-
Zash
It did
-
Link Mauve
lovetox, the server admin wanted that.
-
Link Mauve
If not they wouldn’t have enabled it.
-
lovetox
and which server admin would make that decision?! and why?
-
Zash
the ones who enable every module they can find?
-
moparisthebest
only the ones that make the checkmark green or the % go up !
-
wurstsalat
let me tell you about XEP-0258 and that green check mark in Gajim ;)
-
moparisthebest
oh... oh no https://quicwg.org/quic-v2/draft-ietf-quic-v2.html

moparisthebest
actually it's fine, just trying valiantly to avoid middleboxes breaking everything in the future... good luck
