  1. flow

I think my subscription request for standards@ is in some moderation queue. could someone please have a look? Thanks :)

  2. MattJ

flow, I don't think there is a moderation queue for standards@ subscriptions. I know this is cliché, but... have you checked your spam folder?

  3. MattJ

flow, if there's nothing there, can you share (here or privately) the email address you're trying to use?

  4. flow

MattJ, email address is the same as my jid

  5. flow

and yes, I've checked my spam folder :)

  6. flow

I assume it requires some moderator intervention because when I subscribe with my JID the mailman message does not say that it send a confirmation mail but that some other action is required

  7. MattJ

    It always says that

  8. MattJ

Weird. I don't see that address subscribed, and I don't see anything in the queue.

  9. MattJ

Did you get any emails warning you of bounces?

  10. flow

    MattJ, I did

  11. flow

after all, that is why I was unsubscribed. appearantly gmail become more restrictive in the past months

  12. MattJ

Can you try again now at https://mail.jabber.org/mailman/listinfo/standards ? I'll check logs

  13. flow

MattJ, "Your subscription request has been received, and will soon be acted upon. Depending on the configuration of this mailing list, your subscription request may have to be first confirmed by you via email, or approved by the list moderator. If confirmation is required, you will soon get a confirmation email which contains further instructions."

  14. MattJ

flow, the mail server says your mail server received and acknowledged the confirmation email

  15. MattJ

    Specifically: "250 2.0.0 Ok: queued as CA31D4A001F"

  16. flow

MattJ, meh, I guess it hangs in my mailservers outgoing queue to gmail. thanks!

  17. Kev

If you're fronting gmail behind your own SMTP server, I have found in the last couple of weeks that that is causing me issues with gmail rejecting a bunch of stuff problematically, FWIW, flow. To the extent I'm considering switching to either POP3 or just paying gmail.

  18. flow

Kev, similar here. it seems gmail became more aggressive in the last months, I was dropped from a few mailing lists over the past weeks

  19. flow

    where "few" == 2-3

  20. mdosch

    > If you're fronting gmail behind your own SMTP server, … What's rue purpose of such a setup,

  21. mdosch

    > If you're fronting gmail behind your own SMTP server, … What's rue purpose of such a setup?

  22. Kev

    Not using a gmail.com address.

  23. mdosch

    > If you're fronting gmail behind your own SMTP server, … What's the purpose of such a setup?

  24. mdosch

    I see.

  25. Kev

I've had the same mail address for somewhere over 20 years, predating gmail existing, I don't much want to either switch to using a gmail address or rely on a particular third-party provider continuing to run or lose my address. I know, I know, Google has a strong track record of never cancelling services, but you never know.

  26. Zash

    Self-host all the things!

  27. Kev

If only I could work out a decent setup to replace gmail :)

  28. Maranda

mdosch: anyways compliance, a bussness may use their own appliance as mail gateway for incoming/outgoing traffic to do all the sort of filtering

  29. Zash

Kev, of course, that is not possible. Do it anyway!

  30. singpolyma

flow: if you "forward" mail to Gmail from your box that means you forward the spam too, so you look like a spammer. This is how many boxes get in trouble

  31. flow

singpolyma, I know. I've been doing this since I stopped hosting my on fully-featured mail service, and gmail only recently started to get more restrictive

  32. moparisthebest

Ha, I have the opposite setup, my old Gmail forwards to my self hosted server

  33. moparisthebest

Probably should turn that off at some point, no legitimate mail has went there for years...

  34. MattJ

You're harming Google's sender reputation score with that setup

  35. singpolyma

My Gmail account is so old I have that set up *and* can send used the Gmail interface "from" my custom domain but going via Google SMTP servers

  36. singpolyma

Useful every now and then when there is a delivery issue

  37. MattJ

Is that no longer a feature?

  38. singpolyma

MattJ: hasn't been for years. If you want to send via a custom domain you have to SMTP auth to another server from Gmail web interface

  39. singpolyma

But grandfathered accounts are still allowed

  40. pep.

"MattJ> You're harming Google's sender reputation score with that setup" they probably care very little :P

  41. moparisthebest

You mean Google's reputation on my server? I don't think rspamd tracks that

  42. singpolyma

Has there been much discussion in the past of using disco info to advertise support for codecs / image formats?
