XSF Discussion - 2022-10-19

  1. Kev

    > Hi all. Does anyone have experience with XEP-0361? > I'd like to create a messaging service that works over radio using XMPP and that XEP seems to be the way to go among others. Fairly extensive experience, yes.

  2. Daniel

_insert joke about fcas compat cloud_

  3. Daniel

XMPP + battle cloud. A match made in heaven. Maybe? Dunno I need to workshop that a little more

  4. Daniel

  5. Steve Kille

khirput - you tried to XMPP me thru the MUC and something went wrong. Please email me at steve.kille@isode,com

  6. khirput

    > Kev: > 2022-10-19 04:34 (GMT+10:00) > Fairly extensive experience, yes. What have you used it for?

  8. Kev

I'm Steve's minion at Isode. So the things you'd expect for that.

Is it possible to add a link to the CoC in the topic please? Something like: XSF Discussion | Code of Conduct: https://xmpp.org/extensions/xep-0458.html Logs: https://logs.xmpp.org/xsf/ Agenda: https://trello.com/b/Dn6IQOu0/board-meetings

  11. MSavoritias (fae,ve)

    +1

  12. jonas’

corollary, I think we should advance that document

  13. jonas’

it's served us well in operators@, which officially adopted that CoC already a while ago, and it would be good to have it graduate to Active

  14. pep.

Can an Active document be improved upon still?

  15. pep.

Or will we have to go through process hoops and get a new document at some point

  16. pep.

Maybe we can have a stable pointer to whatever the current document is? (I believe IETF does that for some things?)

  17. jonas’

    pep., yes, it can

  18. jonas’

it just means that changes need to go through board (as opposed to be done unilaterally by the authors)

  19. jonas’

which is a good thing™ for the CoC I'd say

  20. pep.

    Sure

  21. pep.

    Well, it's a better thing :p

  22. jonas’

    true

  23. jonas’

might be that we'd want changes to the CoC be approved by the entire community?

  24. jonas’

but that's something which can be figured out later, I guess

  25. Kev

    > might be that we'd want changes to the CoC be approved by the entire community?

  26. jonas’

I don't see anything after the quote, Kev, is that intentional?

  27. Kev

    > might be that we'd want changes to the CoC be approved by the entire community? Almost certainly not, I'd have thought. ISTM that Board approval based on community feedback is the right thing to do.

  28. jonas’

    (nevermind, edited)

  29. Kev

    > I don't see anything after the quote, , is that intentional? Fat finger.

  30. jonas’

(I was worried it might've been a missing emoji on my side)

  31. pep.

It can be figured out later, surely. I'd also lean towards having it approved by more than 4-5 people.

  32. Ge0rG

Let's have a Board, Council and CoC election. With candidates! And parties! And fundraisers!

  33. jonas’

2/3 happening right now, do we have candidates already? ;)

  35. jonas’

I strongly dislike any multi-line formatting, it takes so much vertical space

  36. emus

    but vertical space from where?

  37. Ge0rG

    from the join history

  38. jonas’

    ^

  39. Zash

Multi-line topics aren't even supported in many clients

  40. emus

Well, if they are not supported, then its wrapped into one line anyway?

  41. Ge0rG

Zash: that doesn't stop many channels from just using them

  42. emus

    > Ge0rG: > 2022-10-19 02:18 (GMT+02:00) > from the join history you mean it does appear reptivitiv?

  43. Ge0rG

    emus: yeah

  44. Guus

Does the CoC need to be in the subject for it to be enforceable?

  45. emus

    hmmm...

  46. Ge0rG

but I've learned to ignore them and so I have no stakes in this question

  47. Ge0rG

Guus: no, but apparently it helps with making people aware and proactively behave better

  48. Guus

that's silly enough for it to be true...

  49. emus

Folks - something against a end of the year online meeting? open agenda to your points - everyone bring their GlĂĽhwein, buiscuits, drinks of choice and we can talk / listen in? Tue, 6th Dec ?
