you'll see why it's relevant after the click https://www.theregister.com/2022/10/27/the_gnome_project_is_closing/

  2. Menel

TL -didnt press the link: they use discourse now -- mailman sucks

  3. MSavoritias (fae,ve)

Yeah. Dont shoot me but: i agree that forums are better. Just something that doesnt require javascript.

  4. singpolyma

Discourse works as a mailing list anyway, for us who prefer that

  5. mathieui

    (It does that badly, tbh)

  6. moparisthebest

counterpoint: mailman does mailing lists badly, the XSF's is virtually unusable for me because it destroys DKIM *and* SPF

  7. singpolyma

Yeah, breaking dkim and not re-signing is not a good look :P

  8. Guus

Is using outdated mailing list software more decremental to XSF operations than using something that requires javascript?

  9. Guus

If we can't address two issues, we should choose to address the bigger issue, if one is bigger than the other.

  10. moparisthebest

discourse doesn't require javascript when used as a mailing list / via a mail client, and I'm told the forum also functions perfectly fine without javascript in a web browser

  11. Ellenor Malik

    hm

  12. Ellenor Malik

should I strip dkim in my ezmlm fork?

  13. MSavoritias (fae,ve)

I can browse discourse without javascript thats true. Cant post. Gentoo forums are still better in that example. But I am also thinking how much is it actually going to be used to change the whole system for that.

  14. MSavoritias (fae,ve)

If its only the signing and the long form discussions about xeps, i think its better to upgrade to new mailman
