  1. Zash

https://fosdem.org/2023/stands/ New location for the realtime lounge?

  2. MattJ

    😱

  3. jcbrand

I think I might go this year again

  4. jcbrand

    Although I don't think I could attend a summit if there's one

  5. gooya

XEP-0384: OMEMO encryption is now in 'experimental' phase and hasn't been updated for almost a year (2022-01-18). Does that mean that in 10 days it is moved to deferred? Seems illogical as the XEP is already stable but still being worked on?

  6. MattJ

gooya: definitely something for council to discuss

  7. gooya

Alright I'll forward it to their channel

  8. pep.

Also judging by the amount of activity in specs, maybe 1 year is not enough. Or #RemoveDeferred

  9. gooya

pep.: Is the system automated or does it get evaluated by humans?

  10. pep.

It's semi-automated. XEP-0001 dictates what should happen. Humans make it happen with the help of tools.

  11. gooya

I think it is good to have specific time points of when something is evaluated but depending on the protocol 1y might indeed be too short. If humans are involved they can make the choice of whether to move the status of an XEP upon receiving these time indication notifications. But fully automation of this is indeed not preferred.

  12. Daniel

one could probably Last Call it

  13. Zash

Isn't everyone still on OMEMO v3?

  14. gooya

Most clients are, only kaidan, libervia? and moxxyv2. Have some sort of omemo 0.8 implementation.

  15. gooya

Most clients are, only kaidan, libervia? and moxxyv2. Have some sort of omemo 0.8.X implementation.

  16. gooya

  17. gooya

    (As far as I know)

  18. wurstsalat

    UWPX as well

  19. emus

UWPX is not being developed anymore

  20. Zash

OTOH, isn't Proposed where it's supposed to be implemented for Realâ„¢ ?

  21. Menel

It seems one can hold it in proposed for some time, if one just regularly extents the last call. https://xmpp.org/extensions/xep-0001.html#proposal In this case, because there is not enough real world feedback 🙂. Then it has the nicer status, not experimental..

  22. Menel

On the other hand.. All of this is just words.

  23. Daniel

    > UWPX is not being developed anymore TIL. that's a bit sad

  24. Daniel

three-ish client + a library puts us well into Last Call territory

  25. Zash

    Isn't that for Final?

  26. Zash

(Hm, my previous message should be s/Proposed/Stable/)

  27. Daniel

    i mean move stable

  28. Daniel

yes the conditions with x implementations are for Final. but what i mean to say is we should have enough experience with the XEP that we can move it into stable

  29. Zash

We're moving too fast! We should be implementing and deploying Stable, not Experimental!

  30. MSavoritias (fae,ve)

Also final wouldnt make sense for this xep right? Because its encryption and we may want to upgrade it in the future

  31. singpolyma

Can always make a new XEP number if running afoul of The Rules

  32. singpolyma

    Later

  33. emus

    > Daniel: > 2023-01-08 05:19 (GMT+01:00) > TIL. that's a bit sad Indeed and the dev even more left xmpp entirely

  34. Seve

    > Indeed and the dev even more left xmpp entirely Sad to know that, met him on the Berlin Sprint :/ Was it just personal reasons? Or technical issues like disagreeing with the protocol, etc?

  35. Zash

IIRC they talked about pain of developing for Windows?
