I don't know if this has been discussed before, but the recent wave of attacks uncovered something: removing messages with offensive images is one thing, but we don't have a way to deal with offensive images in *avatars*, do we? Maybe it's just a client problem, when a message is retracted by moderators, the avatars should also not be displayed.

MattJ
Yeah, I think it's a client thing to solve (I mean, you can also report to the server admins hosting the user account)
-
edhelas
I have this issue in Movim, people respect the publication of #nsfw content but with sometime a 18+ avatar
-
Zash
Deprecate XEP-0153!
-
Zash
No avatars in public chats!
-
nicoco
I think the user account does not exist anymore, but the picture is still cached in gajim history.
-
nicoco
edhelas: your issue is a bit different. but I guess it could be something that muc services implement, letting moderators filter out 'vcard-temp:x:update' for certain participants
-
nicoco
Zash: why only in public chats? 80x25 monospace chars for everyone! ;)
-
Zash
Having an option to disable PMs and occupant IQ routing is something I want here, but that's probably not a complete solution
-
Zash
Maybe restricting such based on role/affiliation ... /hat
-
pep.
I don't know if it's really a client isue. There are moderated messages for which I'll want to remove everything, but there are others I may not, maybe there should be some degree of moderating I can decide when sending the payload?
-
MattJ
pep., but moderating after the fact won't remove it from e.g. client caches
-
MattJ
It's primarily the client that chooses what to display to the user
-
pep.
Clients receiving the payload would do so?
-
MattJ
You mean in the moderation stanza, say "also hide the avatar"?
-
pep.
Yes
-
MattJ
Could do
-
MattJ
Per message though?
-
pep.
That does make stuff a bit more complex :/
-
pep.
Maybe it shouldn't be handled per message for avatar, nicknames, whatever else can be displayed about a MUC participant
-
pep.
That includes nickname changes, status messages concerning these changes, etc. though I guess for this "hide the nickname plz" should be enough
-
pep.
That probably requires occupant-id as not everyone will see the corresponding JID or will have a list of previous nicknames for the user

The hooded sweaters have arrived! I'll try to ship them today.
-
Zash
Ha, I'm wearing mine today! 😀
-
nicoco
ohh "I think therefore IM", didn't know this one, nice!
-
Guus
I've got some spare ones for some sizes, if someone wants one
-
root
Guus: how much were they again? €30 plus shipping?
-
Guus
root: about 32 plus shipping to be more exact
-
root
Ah, I want one, but can't justify the purchase currently. Perhaps if you still have a large one kicking around in a few months :)
-
jcbrand
Honestly, I'd buy one if it didn't have the writing on the sleeve.
-
jcbrand
I don't need puns on my clothes. And not on the sleeves 😃
-
Guus
¯\_(ツ)_/¯
-
jonas’
you are weird ;)
-

that pun makes me want to get one, actually, but I have so many hoodies already.
-
root
IM a walking pun.

Maybe it's just a client problem, when a message is retracted by moderators, the avatars should also not be displayed. Cheogram Android pre-release also hides avatar and nick in moderated message. Also allows users to permablock any avatar or media locally

Menel
Conversations deletes the avatar from users not joined anymore. So from the blocked users too. That was implemented after one of the last spam waves
-
moparisthebest
A lot of the "different" spammers had the same avatar, could block them that way until they caught on lol

re: hoodies I love the design but can't stand hoodies that don't zip up, personal preferences are funny

Seve
Haha, true

jonas’
oh, yep, those aren't for me either :(
-

Pff, shipping was harder (and more expensive) than expected, but after three trips to the postal office, everything is on its way.
-
jonas’
oof
-
jonas’
thanks for your service
-
Guus
I'll be sending payment requests to everyone individually later tonight.
-
Guus
jonas’: you're welcome, but I didn't send anything your way, right?
-
jonas’
no, nor did I expect such :)
-
jonas’
just saying thanks :)

Kk tx, I was dreading a fourth trip 😃

Be careful at the moment there are spammers who go from room to room on xmpp sending very dirty images

We are well aware and handling it.
