"mopar"? I always assumed "mo paris the best", as in paris with the eiffel tower, and was wondering what this "mo" was for. duh

That might have been the most French assumption ever. :D

(I shall be wearing my t-shirt that has a picture of the Eiffel tower with the caption "I love London" when I'm visiting both Paris and London later this year. ๐ )

Just a heads-up, PMs are now disabled in channels on muc.xmpp.org. In order to prevent harrassment possibilities, etc. that we can't easily moderate. This policy may change in the future, e.g. on a per-room basis or e.g. to allow members to use PM functionality.
-
MattJ
This isn't necessarily permanent, so feedback is welcome, although I hope that most people understand the reason for the change.
-
Guus
No issue here, MattJ
-
MattJ
Oh, and an extra detail: PMs to admins are still permitted. Obviously if people abuse that functionality, the affected person(s) can take action to remove the offender from the channel.
-
Guus
I'm sorry for the latest round of issues that you moderators are having to go through. I'm generally keeping quiet (or try to) to not add to the mayhem - but your actions are supported and appreciated.

MattJ
Thanks. I'm in a different time zone to normal, which is why it may seem like I'm not currently as active as usual. I appreciate everyone who has stepped in to assist while I'm away.

MattJ: Are you sure? it seems PMs are still enabled for non-admins as well✎ -

Understandable decision. Sometimes it is nice to be able to contact privately to be able to get in touch without mentioning this in public but I do not think is reason enough to be against blocking PMs.
-
MattJ
lissine, I don't see that behaviour
-
Zash
Plausible theory: Your client does not show the error
-
lissine
Sorry for the noise, PMs are indeed disabled.
-
lissine
It's just that when PMs are disabled in a MUC hosted on ejabberd, the "Send private message" button on Conversations is greyed out. I assumed the client would behave the same way with prosody as well. Sorry.
-
pep.
As MattJ said they're still enabled for admins so I guess the MUC option to disable PMs isn't set here, but some firewall trick is being used

Since it is only PMs between non-admins that are blocked, I'm not sure if whatever feature flag triggers that behavior would be correct.
