XSF Discussion - 2023-08-24

  1. kurisu

probably a silly question what's the point of https://xmpp.org/extensions/xep-0371.html over https://xmpp.org/extensions/inbox/jingle-sdp.html ? The contents of <jingle ...> are apparently just a different, xml-based syntax for sdp with no added value? Even the xep itself lists the original sdp syntax equvalences. So what's the point of coming up with this new xml syntax?

  2. singpolyma

to make it native and easier to parse without an sdp parser? of course if one if using libwebrtc this doesn't help, but for some stacks it can

  3. singpolyma

If we were designing from scratch today I'm not sure if we'd just give up and use sdp or not, but certainly at the time libwebrtc was just a glimmer in no one's eye

  4. kurisu

    Makes sense, thanks

  5. Alex

A reminder that we have our member meeting today. If you have not voted yet on the applicants then please take some time and talk to Memberbot. Thanks

  6. jonas’

Alex, thanks for the reminder, done!

  7. Zash

    👍

  8. pep.

Could memberbot send a reminder maybe to members that haven't voted yet? Like a month before, a week before, a day before

  9. Zash

It's open source, so sure ;)

  10. pep.

If that was a nudge for me to do it, I'm not a member anymore and I have no interest in being one again :P

  12. Zash

    I don't see how that's a blocker

  13. pep.

    whatever

  14. kurisu

I'm working with a library which I need to feed sdp strings is there like some test suite somewhere perhaps that I could use to ensure the correctness of my translation from https://xmpp.org/extensions/xep-0371.html to the sdp format?

  15. Alex

I am preparing for our member meeting. Will be ready shortly
