    The XMPP Newsletter https://fosstodon.org/@xmpp/111362401513150739 https://xmpp.org/2023/11/the-xmpp-newsletter-october-2023/

  2. nicoco

emus: I think the video link is broken? It points to https://www.youtube.com/@Denshi for me

  3. Titi

Yeah, the link should probably point to https://denshi.live/w/9QQmSySkyNC4hWzco1rALq

  4. Axel R.

emus: I think the passage about Monocles is a bit unclear.

  5. Axel R.

Monocles 1.7.5 is available on F Droid. Monocles 1.7.7 is available as a separate Codeberg Release and is not releases on F Droid yet. The round avatar option is only available in 1.7.7. I think someone redesigned the text shortly before it has been published.

  6. Axel R.

Additionally, as a reader, it would be unclear to me why a final Release of 1.8 is mentioned when 1.7.7 is a release and already contains the features mentioned.

  7. cal0pteryx

I'll fix those later. Axel R. you posted about 10 links to individual releases. I'd prefer to link to a single changeling instead, but I found none. The text containing 10 different release links was unreadable. Sorry that my edits missed those details.

  9. Axel R.

cal0pteryx: Hi. Thanks for the info, but I did not post the text about monocles.

  10. cal0pteryx

:) sorry for assuming that. I'll update the post later

  11. Niidea

    Español?

  12. emus

nicoco: so this does no work? https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=GurbaZzwYvU

  13. goffi

Was there any XMPP or RT devroom accepted? It should be officially published by now, but I don't see anything on Fosdem website.

  14. Guus

Saul tweeted this morning that the RT devroom got accepted.

  15. goffi

    great

  16. nicoco

emus: the link you posted here works, but the newsletter link points to the ‘channel’ of Denshi instead of this specific video

  17. emus

    ok

  18. Axel R.

Who is currently taking care of https://xmpp.org/software I am asking because I do not know who to contact if I find mistakes.

  19. nicoco

Axel R. https://github.com/xsf/xmpp.org/blob/master/data/software.json is where it’s defined. I think PRs are welcome 😊

  20. nicoco

The list of supported XEP list is defined in the repo of each software, eg https://dev.gajim.org/gajim/gajim/-/blob/master/data/gajim.doap

  21. cal0pteryx

Axel R.: ask away, I'm all ears :)

  22. Axel R.

cal0pteryx: - Monal does support Calls only on iOS not on MacOS since Callkit is not available - UWPX is not maintained anymore afaik - blabber did not receive updates for a long time and might be an app to remove sooner or later...

  23. Axel R.

nicoco: thanks, I will have a look at it.

  24. emus

Axel R.: usually one needs to update the doap file

  25. emus

    see monal.repo

  26. cal0pteryx

For unmaintained software, we would need to add a "maintained" True/False flag. I think for Blabber it's not entirely clear yet (but mostly).

  27. cal0pteryx

Regarding Monal and per-platform support for different protocol extensions: this is not something we can pull from a client's soap file I think

  28. Zash

What is even "maintained"? Can it really be boiled down to a boolean?

  29. cal0pteryx

    DOAP, not soap

  30. MSavoritias fae.ve

Why add a flag instead of just remove them?

  31. cal0pteryx

MSavoritias fae.ve: that's not how it's done on xmpp.org/software There is a "legacy" section for all software ever listed

  32. cal0pteryx

maintained or not is indeed hard to fit into a boolean

  33. MSavoritias fae.ve

The legacy section you mean without a doap?

  34. MSavoritias fae.ve

    At the bottom

  35. emus

    yes

  36. MSavoritias fae.ve

    Noted.

  37. Guus

Didn't we switch to doap to avoid having to worry about implementations being outdated?

  38. singpolyma

We can still worry if we like, it's just Somebody Else's Problem ;)

  39. Alex

I just have started Memberbot for our annual board & council voting. When you are a XSF member then feel free to talk to Memberbot and cast your votes.

  40. emus

    👍

  41. emus

Alex: can you write to the members mail? Do we have the functionallity that the member bot write to them?

  42. Alex

The mail is coming in some minutes

  43. Alex

I just use Email templates in my mail client

  44. moparisthebest

If Alex ever gets tired of doing this we are done for 😅

  45. Fishbowler

I've had emails from members-bounces saying that I can't receive emails. Anyone got ideas on how to diagnose that? Other deliverability seems good.

  46. Alex

Crazy, Martin voted faster than myself this time ;-)

  47. mdosch

    😇

  48. mdosch

The bot messaged me, so I started voting.

  49. root

    🚀

  50. Guus

    The bot messages you?

  51. Zash

    Bot needs votes!

  52. Guus

Does the bot announce with a message that it desires votes?

  53. moparisthebest

    Not me ever

  54. Alex

usually not, I assume he has a scripts that starts the chat on presence or smth similar

  55. Guus

Fishbowler: for anything maillinglist related (its UI is b0rked at the moment), I think you need manual intervention from stpeter or mattj

  56. Guus

    ah ok. FOMO averted.

  57. Zash

    misidentified PEP notification?

  58. emus

It would be great to expand the bot capabilities

  59. mdosch

Seems I have sent it a message after the last voting period and it replied to me after receiving the message on startup.

  60. Zash

    Reminds me of https://pbfcomics.com/comics/post-apocalyptic/

  61. Alex

    okay, from offline message then

  62. moparisthebest

    > Seems I have sent it a message after the last voting period and it replied to me after receiving the message on startup. Life hack

  63. emus

    ^^
