  1. Maranda

MIX is just what soon became a Frankensteinian that with good reason will never see the light

  2. singpolyma

    indeed

  3. deport

    that's sad

  4. singpolyma

    deport: why?

  5. deport

I'm sure a decent amount of time and effort went into making the standard

  6. singpolyma

Well and some implementations of it exist and I guess those feel they are getting value from it

  7. singpolyma

We have some standards that lots of effort went into with zero implementations still. Those are maybe sadder, from that PoV

  8. deport

I just mean that it's sad that any standard would end up being unused, not that I think they should be used simply because they exist.

  9. deport

I guess it's a gamble to create one

  10. singpolyma

    that's fair

  11. singpolyma

Yes, for sure it is. Helps to get implementations and buy in before drafting I think, but some people prefer to work the other way around

  12. deport

I was wondering what the range of the drafting process might be. How do people do it outside working in private?

  13. singpolyma

Well, a draft can be submitted to the XSF inbox as soon as it is ready for outside input

  14. singpolyma

it doesn't have to be assigned a xep number until it's ready

  15. singpolyma

and can easily be discussed here and on list etc

  16. singpolyma

    that's one way

  17. singpolyma

of course any online pad or whatever could also be used for early drafting

  18. deport

to be clear, I'm not planning to create one

  19. deport

I just wonder if people usually talk about it before putting a lot of work into it

  20. singpolyma

I think usually, but it's hard to say for sure. sometimes things just appear in the inbox heh

  21. deport

lol, I can imagine that happening

  22. singpolyma

I have wiki pages about stuff that I may draft XEPs about someday, to document what I'm doing and let others try it out etc

  23. dwd

Does anyone know if we have bibxml for Internet Drafts for XEPs still? I know we used to, but it's not in the IETF's bibxml service.

  24. Zash

Can't find any trace of 'bibxml' anywhere. Does https://xmpp.org/extensions/xep-0045.html#appendix-biblatex help?

  25. dwd

Doesn't seem to. No matter, I can write it all out by hand.
