XSF Discussion - 2024-05-06

    > I'm very interested to see how much of a pain working with nlnet is. New territory for me I've found the NLnet process to be slow, but the people involved very friendly and constructive.

  2. Daniel

last time I applied to NLnet I didn’t find it unusually slow compared to other funding sources. but then again this was a while ago and since then they have increased their funding activity a lot

  3. Guus

I have no previous experience with them, but they are apologetic and mention an uptake in proposals slowing down processing recently.

  4. stpeter

BTW, Nicola started this discussion on the Board email list, but given the wide interest and input I think we should move it to the Members email list.

  5. nicola

@stpeter, feel free to involve all the members on that matter

  6. stpeter

Nicola provided more reasoning behind the idea of a European “presence” (e.g., level of activity, grants, etc.).

  7. stpeter

@nicola OK! (I assume you are also on the Members@xmpp.org discussion list?)

  8. stpeter

(Board members are not required to be XSF members, but almost always are and in any case should also be on the Members@xmpp.org list for just this kind of situation.)

  9. nicola

    > @nicola OK! (I assume you are also on the Members@xmpp.org discussion list?) Yes, I am on the list

  10. stpeter

In the discussion after I had to leave the other day, @hook made some good points about “understanding the language and knowing where the relevant authorities are” (etc.). I know all this for the U.S.A., but I seem to be the primary person active on this side of the Atlantic, so I worry about the bus factor. But this was not Nicola’s main point.

nicola: would you mind sending an updated note to the members@ list? Basically your original board@ note but updated to reflect discussion since then. That would be great!

    > nicola: would you mind sending an updated note to the members@ list? Basically your original board@ note but updated to reflect discussion since then. That would be great! For sure! Due to my work commitments, I’ll do it in the next few days.

    No hurry. Thanks!
